Bluebeard the Serial Killer

In Bluebeard woman are basically nothing. I say nothing because he kills every wife that he has had. His current wife is curious to know what her husband keeps in a closet where he had warned her not to look but he gave her the key. Bluebeard just wanted an excuse of killing his wife because he is a serial killer. In this story woman are depicted as the nosey female that cannot control her urges. I believe that this story subvert the image of woman because we are looked at as the nosey woman that likes to gossip. Since in this tale woman are looked at as being nosey than men should be the violant serial killer? Sometimes I wonder what are authors thinking when they write a story, their audience are going to entreprit or he might be giving out the wrong example for what ever point he is trying to make. In this case Perrault should have chosen his story line a bit carefully because he is giving the wrong depiction of woman. Women are more than nosey people that cannot listen to instructions and that our only salvation is the arrival of a man.

SMART LITTLE WHUPPIE

In the short story of " Molly Whuppie" by Joseph Jacobs puts a spin on the Hansel and Gretel I am used to reading. In this version the children's parents throws them out of the house because they did not have enough food to eat. Well in this story Jacobs uphold the expectation of woman today because she in a way is the heroine. Molly Whuppie was smart and married her sisters to rich princes ( at least she married them to rich people). She made sure that they were well off. In this version Molly is the one that thinks of everything unlike the other versions. She is the strong character and makes sure that her siblings are well off. I like this story because it doesn't come off as a manly point of view even though it was written by a man. I guess European men are more sensitive.

                             Children sleeping.

HANSEL AND GRETEL

Ahhh the brother and sister that gets kicked out of their home because their parents are basically starving. Well as we go on with the story we see that Hansel is not trying to stay in the woods as their parents intended. Thanks to Hansel they were saved because Gretel was too busy weeping. Why are woman always the weaker person? Why couldn't Gretel be the one that thought of all of the ideas, she was the one just following her brother around as if she did not have any input.Woman are always depicted as the weak needing to be saved person. For once we should be the one saving the guy or brother in this case. I think that this story subverts the image of woman because we are more than that. When you think about it, we are the strong and braves ones.
Funny story, I went to get a pedicure with my husband while I was relaxing in the massage chair feeling as if I were in heaven my husband was making all sorts of faces because to him having a pedicure is painful. At this moment I thought to myself, this poor man is week and at times useless.....

The Wolf and Little Red Riding Hood Love Affair

Since the werewolf  could be the unleashing of the inner man, Little Red Riding Hood (LRRH) could be the woman that tries to play hard to get. Although the circumstances are shown so that LRRH is the victim there are versions in where she plays along. The werewolf goes on to pursue LRRH but she is convinces when he keeps insisting. He follows her in the forest until he gets what he wants. This is sort of a description of a relationship, don't you think? This kind of upholds the image of woman because we are known to make believe we are not interested when it comes to men. OK ill be honest! I used to be like that so I know that's true.

I found these lyrics of a song named The Wolf Who Fell in Love with Little Red Riding Hood by MisakiTheHugger.

A scene that starts with a glance
It’s important yet was by chance
What I could see far away
Was the color red sway
Frightened, I began to run
Feeling something bad might come
From the black shadow that I could see
Found in the forest full of mysteries
The meeting
Is a scenario
That leads her to an ending
That is why I decided to take the long route
I want to meet you
I want to touch you
I want to talk to you
But those are things I can’t do
A weak you and a crafty me
The encounter, that’s the ending
Even if I try to fight it,
Fate is cruel and won’t change it
Ah, why you?
Ah, why me?
Why must we be the fated
wolf and Little Red-Riding Hood?
I’m sure you’ll come down this way
As you do each and every day
And all I can do is hide out of sight
And watch you with delight
You’re hiding behind the trees today
Like usual when I come this way
I pretend not to see you
And keep passing through
Our eyes don’t meet
And our voices can’t reach
Just giving a soft sigh at the same time
Even if I can’t meet you
Even if I can’t touch you
Even if I can’t talk to you
I don’t care if I do
Unreliable you and awkward me
As long as you’re there, that’s all that I need
If this is love, but no one will say
Words are just unnecessary
Even if I keep thinking
Even if I keep thinking
I can’t find a way to change the ending
I want to meet you
I want to touch you
I want to talk to you,
I want to so much
Lovely you and gentle me
Meeting and being together
Would be the best ending
Over and over, over and over
I pray to God to change our fate but
Sadly, sadly for us
We’re the wolf and Little Red Riding Hood
I want to help you
As tears stream down
The hand I reach out toward you shakes
I love you so much,
I want to hold you so much,
But I just cannot…!
No matter how much I try,
No matter how much I pray
Talons and fangs don’t just go away
So I’ll be waiting
Till you stop crying
Behind this tree
Forever…
Poor Wolf hes in love with Little Red Riding Hood but cannot have her!
So on the notes of "Wolf as a sexual surrogate" it shows that the character of the wolf has many different meanings throughout time. it says "In later versions of the tale a hunter or woodsman comes to the rescue. The moral is that a good man or husband can save a woman from her foolishness and she gets a second chance to walk a straight path." I know that during those times people were all into the "right" path of woman but they would always put us down one way or another. MEN ARE THE SALVATION OF WOMAN! but men wouldn't do anything without us. I think that this definitely subverts the image of woman. Although it was expected in the past.

Little Red Riding Hood Innocent? NOT!!!

Little Red Riding Hood is seen as an innocent child. But as I read the other versions she is not as innocent as I'm used to. In the 1885 version "The Story of Grandmother" Little Red Riding Hood (LRRH) is treated as a sexual object and i feel that she took advantage of it by doing what the wolf said getting him to trust her so that she can get away. In this version I feel that it represents the image of womanhood today because in modern day woman are seen mostly as a sexual object to men. The wolf would be what the modern day man is and LRRH is treated as a sexual object by telling her to undress herself. Now woman also use that to their advantage to get what they want. in this version of LRRH she does just that, she does what she is told and then she jumps out of the window and escapes.

The LRRH version of Roald Dahl is the best version in my opinion he makes woman look powerful and definitely subvert the expectations of the female gender. She has a gun and she's not afraid to use it. Who would think of LRRH with a gun? That was a brilliant spin to this story. As you have seen in my previous posts you can tell that I believe that woman should be perceived as strong people and not weak and helpless as many fairy tales put us out to be. So this version is definitely what I mean about woman being able to defend themselves! GO DAHL!!!!

1931 Little Red Riding Hood video by Van Beuren

This was a great spin on Little Red Riding Hood. The wolf is not completely the bad guy and falls in love with the grandmother.

DISNEY AND SNOW WHITE

In Disney's version of " Snow White" The image of woman has not changed much. Snow White was still week, helpless and needed saving at the end. The only difference was that when Snow White arrived at the Dwarfs house she decided to clean on her own instead of the Dwarfs telling her to take care of the house as in the Brothers Grimm version. I guess it was a bit of an upgrade to willingly clean the house opposed to being ordered to. I know that the expectation of woman were super low back then, its surprising to see that we were not expected to know much but to keep up a house and needing a man to survive like Snow White!
